Courtesy of renowned cinema and theater actor and director Rajit Kapoor, the theatrical adaptation of two amazing stories of Indian literature was done in Mumbai last week. Rakesh Sahu was the director of these plays presented by Satyanveshi Theater Group in which all the artists including actress Henci Dudhaiya were highly praised. On one hand, Rakesh Sahu did the theatrical adaptation and direction of the story Punch Light written by litterateur Phanishwarnath Renu, while Rakesh Sahu also did the theatrical adaptation and direction of Saadat Hasan Manto`s classic story Toba Tek Singh very well. In both the plays, Hency Dudhaiya brought her character to life and impressed with her acting skills. Both these dramas were presented by Satyanveshi Theater and Film Acting Workshop at Veda Factory, which were highly appreciated by the audience.
Actress Hency Dudhaiya says that under the guidance of director and mentor Rakesh Sahu, all of us actors were able to play our roles in these plays very well, for which we had done a lot of rehearsals. He put his heart and soul into presenting these plays. Punch Light was a very light and fun drama, it was a dramatization of Phanishwarnath Renu`s story. This is the story of the time when there was no light. In this play we had to speak Bundelkhandi language, for which we learned the accent. There were many comic moments in this play.
Very excited to work in these plays, Hency Dudhaiya further said that the second play was based on Manto`s story which had very deep emotions. During its rehearsal, we all had tears in our eyes. The kind of direction given by Rakesh sir left not only us actors but also the audience speechless and everyone felt that pain. I played the role of the heroin in this play. Doing this play was a very emotional journey for all of us, because we had to get inside our character and we also had to do a lot of research. The way Rakesh sir briefed us about our roles in detail, we got a chance to feel the soul of the story and bring the character to life.
It is noteworthy that Toba Tek Singh is a famous story by Saadat Hasan Manto on the partition of India. This is the story of many mad people living in a mental asylum, they have their own world. The adaptation and direction of this story has been done by Rakesh Sahu. Saadat Hasan Manto was a great Urdu story writer on whose life the film Manto starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui has also been made.
